It’s only fitting that the Seattle Art Fair (running August 2 to 5) takes place in the CenturyLink Field Event Center, situated beneath the Seattle Seahawks football stadium. Fair founder Paul G. Allen also owns the NFL team (as well as the NBA’s Portland Trail Blazers). On its fourth year, the fair will feature 100 exhibitors from 46 countries, including big-name modern and contemporary art galleries like Gagosian and David Zwirner. One highlight, “Probably Chelsea,” will showcase portraits algorithmically generated by DNA analysis.

Germany’s Challenge Roth, the world’s largest long-distance triathlon, is also one of its most grueling. This new feature-length documentary goes inside the lives of six pro athletes, including Ironman world champion Mirinda Carfrae, as they train and prepare for the 2014 race. Find it in theaters starting August 8.

Also on August 8, professor and researcher Maryanne Wolfe discusses her new book, Reader, Come Home: The Reading Brain in a Digital World, which explores what happens to the reading brain—diminished attention span included—as it changes to adapt to our increasing use of digital mediums.

Outside Lands continues to earn its reputation as the premier music festival for foodies. This year’s three-day event (August 10 to 12) in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park pairs some of music’s biggest acts, including The Weeknd, Florence + the Machine, and Janet Jackson, with the Bay Area’s best eats. Think: Hawaiian ahi poke, hummus wraps, and whole cracked coconuts, along with wines and craft beers. 


This year’s U.S. Open (August 27 to September 9) marks the 50th anniversary of the States’ premier tennis event, which started in 1968 with Arthur Ashe’s historic win. For those who can’t make it to Flushing Meadows for the tournament, plenty of viewing options abound in New York City, including at <a href="https://gothamwestmarket.com/" target="_blank">Gotham West Market</a>, <a href="http://www.thevine.nyc/" target="_blank">the Vine</a>, and <a href="http://porterhousenyc.com/" target="_blank">Porterhouse Bar and Grill</a>.

The singer-songwriter and Nike are releasing their second collaboration, the Air Jordan 3 JTH Bio Beige, on August 28. These retro-cool sneakers feature references from JT’s latest Man of the Woods album on the insoles and collar. Find them in select Nike retailers.
