They lead to fulfillment.
“Dance is for anyone who likes to express themselves through movement,” says Chris Vo, a group fitness instructor at Equinox locations in New York City who most recently performed in The Cher Show on Broadway. “My expression is different from yours. That’s the beautiful thing about it.”
Equinox celebrated the official start of fall with Dance Week 2019, which included 130 events across New York City, Boston, Miami, LA, and more. On the day of the autumnal equinox, almost every club will host a limited edition dance class called Fall in Love Dance Party. (Even if you missed these events, Equinox offers dance classes year round.)
Vo and several other experts agree that fear and intimidation are two of the biggest reasons people are hesitant to break into the scene.
“They think they won’t be able to keep up or that they will just make a fool of themselves,” adds Ashley Erickson, dance teacher and group fitness manager at Equinox La Costa in Carlsbad, California. Those hangups negate the whole point of dance. "It's about letting go. If you hold back, you'll be stiff.”
To show you how you can benefit from dance both in and out of the club, Furthermore spoke with Equinox instructors about the dance-derived lessons they use in their day-to-day.
