These autumnal recipes balance sweet and savory.

Fall brings with it a wide range of versatile, nutrient-rich produce. Multicolored squash, root vegetables, and hardy greens appear at the farmers market along with an iconic autumnal fruit: the apple. Though it's an essential ingredient in desserts—not to mention a healthy snack on its own—the fruit also works well in savory recipes. Here, New York City–based recipe developer Beth Lipton devised three preparations that pair apples with lean, protein-rich cuts of pork.
