How to minimize procrastination

Unrivaled Group Fitness classes. Unparalleled Personal Training. Studios that inspire you to perform and luxury amenities that keep you feeling your best.

Movement is the answer.

The science:

A new study shows you’ll be more motivated to complete to-dos (like emails or work assignments with impending deadlines) after moving than you will be after sitting.

Expert insight:

People associate movement with progress and stillness with a lack thereof, explains study author Dolores Albarracín, Ph.D., professor of psychology at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. In other words, physical activity (as light as walking) can jumpstart brain activity while sitting can put your mind in a more dormant state.

Albarracín says movement can encourage you to finish any task, whether it’s an errand or a work project.

The bottom line:

If you find yourself procrastinating, a three-minute walk is enough to kick your brain into gear, Albarracín says. The more time and intensity you can dedicate to exercise, the stronger the effect.
