Luxury and regeneration collide at this rooftop offering.
One part luxe spa, one part recovery hub, Après Equinox is inspired by outdoor locales in far-flung destinations like Iceland and Norway. Brandon Ralph, chief experience officer at Equinox in New York City, wanted to bring such an offering closer to home. “Now people can experience it in their own city, but it’s still just as unique as anywhere else," Ralph says.
The winter activation on the rooftop deck of Hudson Yards is complete with four barrel saunas, a 90-degree pool, and cold-water rain showers, all with Vessel views. From sunrise to sunset, Equinox Hudson Yards members and Equinox Hotel guests have access to the entire deck plus robes and slippers from Parachute.
The space is ideal for morning meditation, post-workout regeneration, and evening relaxation. While you can enter the saunas at your own leisure, you also have the option to join 20-minute guided meditations, bookable on the Equinox app. “I don’t know of any other good outdoor saunas, and the views at sunrise are second to none,” says Jeremy Jauncey, NYC-based founder and CEO of Beautiful Destinations.
To use the space for post-workout contrast therapy, follow a four-to-one hot-to-cold ratio for up to 10 minutes, suggests Jiji Pollock, an exercise physiologist and health and human performance advisor at the Institute of Motion in Solana Beach, California. (For example, spend 4 minutes in the sauna or pool, then 1 minute under the rain shower. Complete 2 rounds.)
“Being able to go from the club, to the sauna, then on to Electric Lemon for breakfast is an amazing experience that you can’t have anywhere else,” Jauncey says.
