Couples, take note.
The gist:
Sharing a blanket with your SO can disrupt your sleep. Equinox Hotels solves this issue by providing two covers for every bed.
Expert insight:
The biggest issue that arises from blanket-sharing is lack of temperature control, says Jennifer Martin, Ph.D., behavioral sleep medicine specialist and member of the Equinox Health Advisory Board who consulted with Equinox Hotels on the decision.
First, if your SO pulls the covers off you as they move around in the night, you may wake up cold. “Second, I often hear about people who have different preferences in terms of weight and warmth of bedcovers,” she adds. Sharing means one person is either too hot or too cold.
The discomfort is likely to pull you out of lighter stages of sleep, Martin says, which can affect how well-rested you feel come morning.
The bottom line:
“Having separate covers eliminates the need for compromise,” says Martin. If you and your SO choose blankets that don't mesh aesthetically, she suggests layering a light bedspread over them for a simple, clean daytime look.
