Shred the soy protein into a salad and sauté it with turmeric.
Research has shown that the combination of genistein (a chemical compound found in soy-based foods like edamame and tofu) and capsaicin (the antioxidant that gives chili peppers their heat) can have anti-inflammatory benefits, says Brooklyn-based recipe developer Ali Slagle. Inflammation in the body is known to be a risk factor for heart disease and cancer and can cause pain and soreness post-workout. Given tofu's mild flavor and myriad possibilities for preparation, it makes a great protein to pair with bold, spicy jalapeño.
Here, three innovative, vibrant dishes that marry the two:
Grated tofu tiger salad
Spicy dashi with silken tofu and squash
Turmeric tofu wraps
