The Wellness Scene of Ibiza

Unrivaled Group Fitness classes. Unparalleled Personal Training. Studios that inspire you to perform and luxury amenities that keep you feeling your best.

While Ibiza is still a nightlife hotspot, the island’s quieter side is drawing those craving a restorative getaway.

Ibiza is known as one of the best nightlife destinations in the world, a universal bucket list item for hedonistic types who like to dance into the wee hours of the morning. While the Spanish island hasn’t shed that reputation, it’s gaining traction as a destination for travelers who are looking for an entirely different type of experience.

People are discovering that Ibiza is a scenic locale, with attractions that make it worth visiting, even for those who are interested in a relaxing, rejuvenating vacation, says Steffi Fitzpatrick, a trip designer at Indagare. Between picturesque beaches and cuisine centered around freshly-caught seafood, Ibiza has much to offer, even for those who have zero interest in its clubs.

“I think as the western world has been moving more towards wellness and spirituality, Ibiza is being noticed as a mecca for these types of retreats,” says Fitzpatrick. “I think that the island has always had spirituality at its core, which is inevitably intertwined with wellness and care for the whole being, but it is just starting to come to the forefront for tourism.”

If you’re booking a relaxation-focused trip to Ibiza, you’ll want to spend most of your time on the quieter north end of the island, whereas the southern region is the epicenter for nightlife, says Fitzpatrick. Ibiza’s peak tourism season lasts from around April through September, and it’s less crowded the rest of the year.

Nailing down the finer details of your trip may require a bit of research. “Ibiza is tricky because so much of the magic of the island is that it is constantly changing, and you have to have a finger on the pulse to tap into it,” says Fitzpatrick. Hotels

Six Senses

Six Senses’ Ibiza property spans rooms, suites, residences, and mansions, and hosts wellness retreats throughout the year. What really makes Six Senses stand out is its spa, per Fitzpatrick. “The 1,200-square-meter Six Senses spa is one of my favorites that I have been to anywhere in the world, with views out over the sea, a steam room, a hammam, and a unique meditation room to begin your wellness journey that perfectly complements their treatment menu,” she says. “Guests can embark on one- three- or seven-day wellness journeys here, or can choose from an à la carte menu of treatment options like RoseBar, which focuses on longevity and anti-aging, biohacking treatments like cryotherapy or PEMF, massages, facials, and specialized meditations to suit your needs.”

Atzaró Agroturismo Hotel

Atzaró Agroturismo Hotel is focused around the idea of natural luxury, with rustic rooms that feature private pools, wood beam ceilings, and fireplaces. It’s home to a lounge, pool bar, and restaurants that utilize locally sourced meat and seafood and organic produce grown on the hotel’s own farms. You can spend an afternoon at the hotel’s spa or book one of its daytime excursions, including guided biking or kayaking tours and boat or hot air balloon rides.

Aguamadera Ibiza

Aguamadera Ibiza places an emphasis on holistic healing, with private fitness, breathwork, sound healing, and massage services available upon request. The hotel hosts occasional music performances and art exhibitions, and its restaurant incorporates locally-sourced ingredients, providing guests with opportunities to experience multiple facets of Ibiza’s culture.

Restaurants

Hämbre

Hämbre originated in New York before relocating to Santa Eulalia, a region of Ibiza known for its culinary scene. The restaurant places an emphasis on natural wines and a constantly-rotating selection of dishes made with seasonal foods sourced from a local farmer’s market.

Amante Ibiza

Amante is a restaurant and beach club that’s a feast for both your eyes and stomach. “Nestled in a secluded cove with breathtaking views of the Mediterranean, this beach club offers a unique blend of relaxation, healthy cuisine, and natural beauty,” as Fitzpatrick sums it up. Amante offers experiences like outdoor nighttime movie showings, yoga classes with breakfast, and private, secluded tables under the stars for a romantic evening.

Cala Gracioneta

Cala Gracioneta is situated in “a charming and idyllic cove that beckons travelers with its pristine sandy beach and crystal-clear waters,” says Fitzpatrick. “Tucked away from the island's bustling scene, it's a serene escape that offers an intimate and tranquil atmosphere, making it a popular destination for relaxation and sunbathing.” The restaurant’s menu features fruity cocktails, variations of grilled seafood and vegetables, and rice dishes traditional to Spain.

Things to do

La Bella Verde Day Boat Charter

“A trip to Ibiza is not complete without swimming in the healing waters of the Mediterranean,” says Fitzpatrick. Through La Bella Verde, you can charter your choice of boat for the day, including options like solar powered electric catamarans or lightweight racers. You can use the vessel to visit Es Vedrà, an island off of Ibiza, the third most magnetic point in the world that some people believe is responsible for Ibiza’s powerful energy.

Tea and Poetry with Alexcia Panay

For an intimate gathering that’s off-the-beaten-path, you can book a tea and poetry experience held at the home of artist, poet, and healer Alexcia Panay. They’re limited to 15 guests, and include a tea ceremony and the opportunity to explore your creativity through writing and reflection. Panay also offers one-on-one healing sessions, custom poems, and performances for weddings and events.
