Alignment trick: push press
Make superfood cocoa.
This warming cup showcases antioxidant- and magnesium-rich raw cacao, which promotes a healthy heart and brain, says Ara Patterson, New York City–based vice president of food and beverage for Equinox Hotels. “It’s an all-rounder for skin, mood, and heart,” she adds.
Sleep challenge: add an extra hour.
Turning the clocks back on Sunday presents an opportunity to hack your sleep, allowing you to get into a new or better routine, says Samantha Rota, a Tier X coach at Highland Park in Texas. Go to bed at your usual time this Saturday and set your alarm for your usual time Sunday (which will actually be one hour later since the clocks turn back overnight).
The challenge is to keep this up in the following days, going to bed when the clock says it’s actually one hour “too early.” Luckily, your circadian rhythm and sleep drive are aligned with sunlight, and an earlier sunset sends a cue to your brain that it’s time to start prepping for sleep.
See Rufus Wainwright.
Since he’s unable to tour his latest album, Unfollow the Rules, Rufus Wainwright is doing a series of performances throughout the fall live from his living room in Laurel Canyon, Los Angeles. The singer-songwriter will be working his way through his entire discography in what he’s calling “Rufus-Retro-Wainwright-Spective.” Sign up for tonight’s show here.
