Reverse sun damage.
Hyperpigmentation occurs when the skin produces more melanin, the pigment that gives skin its color, and can create spots and uneven patches in all skin colors and types. “Pigmentation is the skin's natural defense against sun exposure,” explains Bianca Santana, spa therapist at The Spa at Equinox Brickell. Fall is the perfect time to fight the effects of summer sun damage. “Consistency is key and exfoliation, active ingredients, antioxidants, and protection from the sun are a must,” she adds.
Santana recommends adding antioxidant serums like CE Ferulic and Phloretin CF, which protect skin, increase firmness, and reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles to your regimen, and then following them up with products to specifically target pigmentation, like SkinCeuticals Discoloration Defense (kojic acid/niacinamide) and the Advanced Pigment corrector, which evens the skin's overall tone with exfoliating active ingredients. This sequence can be done morning and night, after cleansing and before moisturizing.
