Hip opener: cow face

Cow Face is a deep hip opener and it’s one of those poses that creates a “good-bad” kind of feeling, says PURE Yoga instructor Jade Alexis in her Peace and Gratitude class on Variis. While you’re in it, try to latch on to the good, she says. “Perhaps in this moment you can just ignore the bad. You can write it off as a release, a letting go. Enjoy the tension leaving your space.” From Pigeon Pose, swing your back leg all the way around and put it on top of your right. Try to stack the knees, pulling the ankles away from each other and squaring your hips. Sit up tall, then exhale and fold forward, walking the hands out in front of you, closing your eyes, and focusing on your breath.

EAT

Level-up leftovers.

This day-after-Thanksgiving salad uses leftover turkey and grains, but you could also swap in any roasted vegetables you have for the Brussels sprouts, says Brooklyn-based recipe developer Ali Slagle. The recipe features already-cooked farro, which turns crisp in the oven and provides texture. "Turkey is a lean meat," adds Slagle, "so it needs added flavor. Coating it in whole-grain mustard before roasting is a light way to do that."

DE-STRESS

Paint away stress.

“To relieve stress, I paint my nails,” says Tatiana Gregory, a Tier 3+ trainer at High Line in New York City. “It’s an activity that requires focus and attention, so you have no choice but to be completely present to the moment. That kind of checking out is essential on a regular basis, especially nowadays.” She loves shades of red for this time of year and when she really needs to redirect herself, she paints designs like a classic French manicure, using ringed paper reinforcements.

New brand alert: Ron Dorff

The Swedish-French men’s apparel line launched in 2012 and is now available at The Shop. Their motto “Discipline is not a dirty word” applies to workouts and lifestyle, says co-founder Claus Lindorff. “If you want results when working out, you need to be disciplined and if you want to succeed in life, you need discipline. There are many different expressions of discipline, but it is always present in one form or another where there are results.”
