Complex move: beast row to crab reach

This exercise works your entire upper body but also your glutes: “To press up [in the crab reach], you have to use your glute muscles to thrust and press,” says Andrew Slane in his Athletic Conditioning: Strength + Cardio class on Variis. “If that flip into the crab reach is crazy, just work that beast row. Figure out that movement pattern first.” Continue for 1 minute.

EAT

Pretox before you celebrate.

On days that are boozier than others, start with a green juice with leafy greens like Swiss chard and kale on an empty stomach. “It will give you energizing antioxidants and keep you hydrated,” says New York City-based registered dietitian Marissa Lippert. Later on, alternate each alcoholic beverage with a glass of lime-laced water. "The vitamin A in the lime will help your liver process the alcohol more efficiently,” explains Burbank, California–based registered dietician Haylie Pomroy.

DE-STRESS

Build on positives.

“My New Year’s resolution is to continue building on the positives that came out of 2020,” says Michael McDonald, a Tier 3+ trainer at Paramus in New Jersey. “While it was a tough year, some positives include becoming more mindful of what I was eating, cooking more than ever before, and spending more time with family. I also completed some extra education that I had put off because I was focused on other things.” In 2021, he’ll use this momentum to create even more wins.
