MOVE

Core move: plank to knee tap

Try this core control-building twist on the traditional plank, demonstrated by Dorian Banks in Erica Mather’s PURE Yoga Core Focus class on Variis. Start in a push-up position with your feet together. Squeeze your knees against one another, push the floor away with your hands, and pull your lower abs in towards the spine. Then, altering nothing else, inhale and ease the knees lightly down so you’re in a modified push-up position. Exhale and lift the knees. Continue for about 45 seconds, then finish in Child’s Pose.

EAT

Quick-hit dinner: salmon soba salad

Fiber-rich soba noodles are the base for this warm-weather meal. They’re topped with mango, crisp slices of cucumber, and poached salmon for a nutritious, filling dinner. A hit of ginger adds zesty flavor and promotes digestion.

DE-STRESS

Set a workout intention.

“Setting an intention can dislodge the negative thoughts that can prevent you from progressing,” says Brandon Marcello, Ph.D., Sarasota, Florida-based sports performance expert and member of the Equinox Health Advisory Board. The key: Make sure it’s realistic. “Let your intention align with who you are and, more broadly, what you want.” Maybe you’d like to breathe through tough moments, enjoy the sensations of moving and getting your heart rate up, or learn something about yourself and your body during your upcoming workout.

CONNECT

Call out players.

“As soon as people engage in game-playing that might be a sign they are not serious or they are insecure,” says study author Omri Gillath, Ph.D., psychology professor at the University of Kansas. Gillath’s recent study on the subject found that there are different reasons people play hard-to-get in a romantic context.

“Some want to filter mates and find the best they can, others are doing it so they can control the situation, and yet others do so because they want to minimize intimacy and closeness.”

The key to a lasting, satisfying relationship, he notes, is honesty, being able to discuss your needs and wants, and comparing your expectations with your partner’s.
