Quick-hit dinner: grilled lemon halibut
In addition to heart-healthy omega-3s, a four-ounce filet of halibut boasts 26 grams of protein. Here, the white fish is grilled on a bed of lemon slices, which adds bold citrus flavor and prevents it from sticking to the grates.
Curb chlorine damage.
Chlorine can remove your hair’s natural oils and make it more susceptible to breaking away from the scalp, says Lynne Goldberg, M.D., director of the Hair Clinic at Boston Medical Center. To fight back, apply a small amount of conditioner to your hair, then put on a swim cap before you hit the pool. “It’ll act as a shield,” she explains.
Post-swim, use fragrance-free, gentle, and color-safe shampoo. Chemicals such as polyethylene glycol and sodium laurel sulfate can break hair, says Marie Jhin, M.D., a San Francisco-based board certified dermatologist. Fragrances and other artificial colors can irritate your scalp and cause hair loss, she adds.
Start soft.
Marriage and family therapist Emmalee Bierly recommends “soft startups” for more productive conversation. Here’s an example: “We both have so much going on and we discussed you helping me with some of the cooking since I’m going back into the office now. If you could tackle dinner tonight, I would really appreciate it.” Just watch your tone, Bierly warns. “Come from a place of curiosity, compassion, and vulnerability.”
A hard startup—"Why do you expect me to make every single meal?" —will most likely elicit a defensive response.
The formula:
1. Start by relaying that you understand they’re also under stress.
2. Remind them of what they said they would do.
3. Request that they follow through at a specific time.
