MAKE SAVORY FRENCH TOAST.
This healthier take on French toast features spinach, broccoli, sausage, feta, and onion, but you could skip the meat (or add a different variety like turkey bacon), and swap in any veggies or mild cheeses you have on hand. If you want a more custard-like dish, opt for using milk, whereas chicken or vegetable broth will increase its savory factor.
PRACTICE COGNITIVE REAPPRAISAL.
Let’s say someone cuts you off while you’re driving, or your friend blows off your planned a.m. workout without an explanation. When you’re angry or upset, try to regulate your emotions with cognitive reappraisal, says Dilip Jeste, MD, senior associate dean at the University of California San Diego and author of Wiser.
In other words, you’re reinterpreting the meaning of what happened: Maybe the other driver has a sick child in the back seat of his car and is racing desperately to the hospital. Maybe your friend was up late managing a work crisis and slept through your workout date. “It doesn’t matter whether you actually know the reason for the other person’s behavior, only that you now have a reason to let the perceived offense pass,” says Jeste.
INSTRUCTOR PLAYLIST: DAMIEN ALEXANDER
